DfE: Early career payments and student loan repayments15 September 2023 (by admin) |
The Department has announced the application window for the levelling up premium, early career payments, and for claiming back student loan repayments will open on 25 September and close on 31 March.
Eligibility for each programme depends on several criteria including subject taught, ITT year, and local authority:
- Levelling up premium: Teachers of physics, chemistry, mathematics, and computing who completed their ITT course in 2019-2023 and work in an eligible school can apply to receive a payment ranging from £1,500 to £3,000. - Early Career Payments: Eligible teachers of physics, chemistry, mathematics, and languages who finished their ITT course in 2021 can apply to receive £2,000; mathematics teachers who finished their ITT course in 2019 or 2020 can apply to receive £5,000. Some local authorities attract an uplift payment which increases £2,000 payment to £3,000, and £5,000 payments to £7,500. For further information and full criteria, click here.
- Claiming back student loan repayments: Eligible teachers of biology, chemistry, physics, computing, and languages in some local authority areas can apply to claim back student loan repayments if their ITT course was completed between 2014 and 2021. The years that can be claimed for depend on when the ITT course was completed, and the amount paid back will depend on how much has been repaid to the Student Loans Company through PAYE.
